Whitson’s Degreaser for Metal Leaf has been specifically developed for the degreasing of metal leaf and precious metal prior to the application of Whitson’s Universal Lacquer. Proper degreasing of leaf is essential to ensure good adhesion and avoid cissing of the lacquer.
Ensure the size beneath the leaf is dried sufficiently for the leaf to be varnished. For this, please refer to the technical literature provided by the manufacturer of the size. Any loose skewings should be brushed away.
Dampen a clean, non-abrasive cloth with water and then apply a few drops of the degreaser to the cloth. Gently wipe the leaf to remove any surface grease and other contamination. Care should be taken when degreasing to ensure the leaf is not damaged, especially with delicate leaf products. Allow the surface to dry thoroughly prior to the application of Whitson’s Universal Lacquer. Do not use when temperatures are below 10˚C or above 30˚C.
